Tapo

Tap a star to rate

Tapo is the smart home brand of TP-Link, and its sites carry the copyright line "TP-Link System Inc." and the US store's own name, "Tapo Store | TP-Link." It describes itself as "A leading smart home brand with over 50 million users worldwide," and its catalog is broad: indoor, outdoor, solar and battery security cameras, video doorbells, smart locks, hubs and sensors, bulbs, light strips, switches and smart plugs, many of them Matter-certified. The US store also sells TP-Link's Deco mesh Wi-Fi systems. Robot vacuums sit under a Cleaning category, and they use the same Tapo app as everything else. The US store frames the range as offering "performance and reliability at an unbeatable value," with "intelligent LiDAR navigation, whole home mapping, powerful suction, and customizable cleaning."

The range

Tapo's global site lists a long ladder of RV models. In the product names, Plus models come with an auto-empty dock, Mop models add mopping, and the Max models are the ones listed with 5300Pa suction.

  • RV10 Lite, RV10 and RV10 Plus: the entry models. The RV10 is a gyroscope robot vacuum and mop; the RV10 Plus adds a Smart Auto-Empty Dock.
  • RV20 family: robots built around what Tapo calls MagSlim LiDAR navigation, in vacuum-only, Mop and Max versions, each with or without an auto-empty dock. The RV20 Max and Max Plus are listed with 5300Pa suction.
  • RV30 family: LiDAR robots, including the RV30C variants and the RV30 Max and Max Plus, which Tapo describes as "5300Pa Hyper Suction" robot vacuums and mops. The Malaysian site adds an RV30 Max Plus Gen 2 with a Compact Auto-Empty Dock.
  • RV50 Omni and RV50 Pro Omni: the all-in-one robots. The RV50 Omni comes with an "All-in-One Omni Dock" and the RV50 Pro Omni with an "Advanced Self-Cleaning Docking Station."

On the US store, the top of the range is the RV50 Pro Omni, a "LiDAR + Dual-Laser Robot Vacuum and Mop with Advanced Dock 15000Pa Suction," at $599.99, which is also the highest price in the collection. Below it the store listed a 5300Pa LiDAR + IMU robot with an auto-empty dock at $255.99 (down from $329.99) and an ultra-slim model at $159.99 (from $239.99). The MagSlim LiDAR Robot Vacuum & Mop with Auto-Empty Dock, Tapo RV20 MAX Plus, was listed at $179.99 (from $249.99), and the MagSlim LiDAR Robot Vacuum & Mop, Tapo RV20 MAX, at $119.99 (from $199.99). Prices on the store move with frequent promotions.

The RV10 up close

The RV10 has the most detailed page and shows what Tapo's entry tier delivers. It uses "High-Efficiency Zigzag Path Planning," which Tapo says gives "Over 90% Cleaning Coverage" against "Around 70%" for random-path robots, based on its own testing to IEC/ASTM standards. Suction peaks at 2000Pa across 4 levels (Quiet, Standard, Turbo and Max), with Carpet Auto-Boost switching to Max on rugs. A 2600mAh battery gives "3 Hours" of continuous cleaning in quiet mode, and the robot returns to its dock when low and "restarts right where it left off."

The mop runs off an electronic pump with 3 water flows and a 300 ml tank. The dustbin holds 400 ml, the HEPA filter is rated H11, and Tapo gives noise as 53 dB in Quiet Mode and 55 dB in Standard. The body is 7.85 cm tall, climbs sills and carpets under 2 cm, uses infrared sensors for obstacles and cliff sensors for stairs, and accepts magnetic tape (sold separately) as virtual walls. It works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, with custom Alexa skills for starting cleans.

App, voice and the rest of the home

All Tapo robots run in the Tapo app, where owners schedule cleaning, switch modes, check status and control the robot remotely. The store's FAQ says Wi-Fi is needed for scheduling, remote control and smart mapping, but "once the home is mapped, the robot can clean areas that may lack Wi-Fi connectivity." It also says the LiDAR models combine LiDAR mapping with Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensors to avoid furniture, stairs and clutter, and offer "room-by-room control." The support FAQs cover No-Go Zones and Virtual Wall boundaries, customized cleaning and building a complete home map.

Because cameras, locks, lights, plugs and sensors all run in the same app, the store pushes bundles under the banner "Build your smart home system Save up to 15% on YOUR bundle." For a household already using Tapo cameras or plugs, the robot is simply one more device in an app they know.

Parts and consumables

Tapo sells consumables on its own store. For the RV30 and RV20 Max Plus there are the RVA105 Replacement Accessory Kit, RVA202 Disposable Dust Bags (5 PC) and RVA301 Washable Mop Cloths (5 PC). For the RV50 Pro Omni, the store lists the RVA520 Washable HEPA Filter at $19.99, the RVA310 Washable Mop Cloth at $24.99, the RVA210 Disposable Dust Bag and the RVA450 Hard Floor Cleaning Solution at $22.99. Tapo's how-to videos cover cleaning the main brush, side brush, filter, sensors, wheels and charging contacts, and emptying the dustbin.

Support, shipping and warranty

The US store offers free shipping on orders $49+, a free gift over $175, 10% off a first purchase for newsletter sign-ups, and Tapo Rewards points that can be redeemed for coupons. It promises a "Trusted Warranty" with "Reliable, free support" and links a Warranty Policy and Return Policy, though the warranty length is not printed on the robot pages. Support runs through video tutorials, FAQs, phone ("Call Us") and live chat ("Start Chat"), a feedback form that promises a reply "within 24 hours," and the TP-Link Community forum. The US site also links an official Amazon Store, and Tapo runs regional sites such as Malaysia.

Who it suits

Tapo suits a buyer who wants a capable robot at a low price, especially one already using Tapo cameras, plugs or lights. The RV10 is a sensible first robot for hard floors and low rugs, with honest published figures and quiet running. The RV20 MagSlim models bring LiDAR at the lowest prices on the US store, the RV30 Max and Max Plus add 5300Pa suction (the Plus with an auto-empty dock), and the RV50 Pro Omni takes the brand into self-cleaning dock territory at $599.99. For anyone who wants TP-Link's support network and one app for the whole home, Tapo is an easy brand to shortlist.
