LiDAR and AI Navigation
Navigation is what separates a robot that cleans your home in tidy rows from one that bounces around and misses half the kitchen. LiDAR spins a laser sensor to build a floor map, while camera and AI systems try to recognize what the robot is looking at. Hitachi says its robot remembers 5 floor maps including multi-level homes, and Matic relies on vision to steer around toys, cables, and paws. Samsung also builds LiDAR into its robots. A good map lets you draw no-go zones and send the robot to one room on demand. Ask whether it sees low obstacles like socks and charging cords, because a laser mounted up top may pass right over them.
